When we first started building multiplayer functionality in Figma four years ago, we decided to develop our own solution. No other design tool offered this feature, and we didn’t want to use operational transforms (a.k.a. OTs), the standard multiplayer algorithm popularized by apps like Google Docs. As a startup we value the ability to ship features quickly, and OTs were unnecessarily complex for our problem space. So we built a custom multiplayer system that’s simpler and easier to implement.
The open source Git project just released Git 2.24 with features and bug fixes from over 78 contributors, 21 of them new. Here’s our look at some of the most exciting features and changes introduced since Git 2.23.
The Retry pattern works well with these kinds of failures since we know (or we think we know) that they won’t happen again on a future call. However, there are times when these transient failures can become total failures. In a situation like this, the Retry pattern stops being useful and, in fact, might even make things worse by consuming critical resources. When facing an issue like this, it’s preferable to have the operation immediately fail so it can be managed by the system. It’d be also desirable that the service is only invoked again if there are chances of a correct result.
